Personal HFS History - Ann Loyd
For three years I didn’t know what was happening to my face. I was told that it was stress, nerves, and any thing that came to mind. At first it was just a tic in my right eye, then a twitch, and then one day I woke to the right side of my face twisted. After seeing several more doctors, I was told that it was Hemifacial Spasm, something I had never heard of before. For the next year I had Botox shots but it didn’t help and when the shots wore off, if I couldn’t get to a doctor, I would have to wait for next month when he was going to give shot again. This left me dismayed until then.
In November 2005 I found the doctor that gave me back my smile. On November 14, 2005, I had my MVD with Dr. Subrata Ghosh at St Luke’s Hospital, Houston, TX (USA). I came out of surgery SPASM FREE, free of the haunting feeling that someone was looking at my face because something was very wrong with it. It has been over two months and I’m improving, but still unable to hear in the right ear and still have a lot of balance problems. I’ve never had any pain from the surgery, even from day one. It wasn’t even necessary to have any pain medications ordered. I’m going to start out side treatment to help with the walking and pray my hearing will come back soon.
