Botox® Experiences - Oleta Jackson (for Angie Hart)
Angie first started seeing a Neurologist in 1995. He used several different medications but, at the time, did not know how to give Botox® shots. But he learned to give them and the injections began, at the eye area. Her spasm or twitching first started in her cheek, but in 2 years, the spasms had moved up to her eye. At first the injections worked but soon the shots were given in the face and the stroke like appearance appeared, not able to move her mouth when she smiled, etc., etc.
Angie worked 12-hour shifts, 7 days per week. One night, while driving home from work, her Botox® stopped working. She had just had shots that Friday and this was on Sunday night, she was very scared. She is blind in the other eye, so when this happened she was 100% blind. She waited until it passed then drove on home and was back in the doctor’s office the next a.m.
Over the years Angie had shots all over her face and neck then the shots became less and less useful for her. True the shots did help keep up the good eyelid, but dry eye and vision problems developed
(blurry vision, etc., etc.).
Her Opthamologist then gave her the last 2 shots of Botox® in the eye area only. She would not let him do the shots in her face. He blocked up her tear duct return for the dry eye problem, which helped very well.
Her opinion on Botox® is, had she known that surgery could have been done for her she would not have chosen Botox®. She would have chosen MVD surgery to keep up her only lid up without the use of Botox®, but she was not given the option of surgery. Her neurologist always told her that there was no cure.... But, she knows now that is not true. Thanks to the HFSA.
She hopes one day she will be able to have MVD surgery to get her life back once again. To be able to work at a job, drive a car and to see the computer again so she herself can write to the group. Currently, her only good eye tires very easily, too much strain on the eye plus all the other stuff going on with her eye, the Demon.
