Botox® Experiences - Kathy Johnson
My Botox® experience was mixed, with some good results for a while and some bad. I liked that it calmed my face, but I didn't like the feeling of paralysis around my eyebrow and mouth. Once the Doctor put too much in the corner of my mouth and I had the "stoke victim look" until it wore off. That was the worst. It did generally give me relief for about three years, enough time to screw up the courage to go the MVD route and so was a blessing in that regard.
The Doctors at the HFSA Conference, in July 2003, presented some statistics that patients using Botox® had a slightly higher chance of spasms after MVD because the nerve keeps firing at an increasing "volume" but the Botox® masks it by not letting the muscle twitch. Having said that, and having used Botox® treatment for over 3 years, I was "SPASM FREE" when I woke up from surgery and no problems. But if you really think you will eventually choose MVD, you may want to consider taking a pass on the Botox®.
