Botox® Experiences - James McGonigal
I had my first Botox® Injections on Monday 10/27/03. I was given four injections, upper eye, lower eye, outside corner and upper cheek with a total of 100 units. I was hoping to walk out of the doctor’s office spasm free but that didn't happen! (joking) The Doctor told me I would start to see results in 3-4 days and full effect in about two weeks. She also stated that the first treatment was very conservative and if I feel I need a booster she would perform this after two weeks, and only this one time.
The first 24 hours I experienced very little side effects, slight swelling in the area of the injections, slight headache and minor dizziness. No change in spasms
The second 24 hours the side effects were a little more severe, headache, nausea, chills, felt like I had the flu. I did notice some changes though, spasms were less frequent and less intense. I swore I started to see my mouth dropping, but was reassured by my wife that it was my imagination and after looking at some old pictures I recognized that it was my pre HFS mouth!
Day three major changes! I had grown accustomed to waking up in full spasm and having to forcefully open my right eye but today was different. I awoke, opened both eyes and stared at the ceiling for awhile until I realized that I wasn't in spasm and all I was feeling was twitching! Throughout the day I experienced about 75% less spasms and the intensity has diminished by about 50%. When I came home from work today, I found myself looking in the mirror and I smiled. For the first time in a long, long time I smiled without a spasm and with both eyes WIDE OPEN!
I will update again after the 2 week mark and until then I pray for continued improvement and no side effects.
